Chapter 70

Chapter 70: My Body Feels So Hot

They fooled around for a bit, but soon enough, Lin Jianyuan was too sleepy to keep going.

He barely slept last night, after all.

Come to think of it, he hadn’t been sleeping well for days.

First the landlord hiked the rent, making Lin Jianyuan question his entire existence.

Then his roommate’s cover got blown. Well, that was nothing new—he’d known for a while that his roommate was the pink digestive system.

After that, a massive crowd besieged their old, rundown place… But honestly, that wasn’t a big deal either. His wife was way too strong for anything to go wrong.

While chaos raged outside, they stayed in, eating like kings.

They even had time to let the robot vacuum mop the floor.

There wasn’t a hint of tension left.

Then came the job at the Bureau…

Overtime at the Bureau…

And more overtime, again and again…

Damn!

No wonder he was exhausted. It was all the endless overtime at the Bureau!

What the hell!

He thought he’d escaped one fire pit, only to land in another.

And this one was even bigger.

Deeper.

And it lasted even longer! (Because it was a permanent position.)

The craziest part was that all of this happened in just four or five days.

His adrenaline had been doing sit-ups nonstop.

No wonder he was tired.

“Sleepy…” Lin Jianyuan was running on empty now.

His throat was scratchy and dry, and his eyes stung.

He’d forgotten to bring his Eye Vines—wait, normal people would call that “forgetting eye drops,” right?

Lin Jianyuan found himself chuckling at the thought.

A smile tugged at his lips.

But he was just too tired… his head felt foggy.

He drifted off.

When he woke, the plane was already preparing to land.

Lin Jianyuan felt a little better, but his chest was heavy.

He looked down—his wife was sprawled across his chest again.

She was fiddling with the buttons on his white shirt.

What’s there to feel heavy about!

That’s the weight of love!

Lin Jianyuan: “~”

With his heart full of joy, he hopped into the business car and headed to the hotel.

The hotel had sent the car. Of course a top-tier hotel would offer airport pickup.

Not just offer it, but do it right.

The car smelled faintly of perfume, with tissues, drinks, fruit, and snacks neatly arranged by the armrest.

When the driver opened the door for them, there were fresh flowers waiting on the seat.

Talk about maximum emotional value!

Damn, being rich really is something…

Lin Jianyuan thought, feeling genuinely moved.

The hotel was far from the city center, more than an hour’s drive away.

They could have teleported, of course, but as his wife said, sometimes it’s good to see things from a human perspective. It changes everything.

Lin Jianyuan found himself interested in the passing scenery.

He used to travel for work all the time, visiting city after city, but never more than a fleeting glance.

Even with a private car, he never had the energy to look out the window.

Work trips were exhausting—who had time to care about the view?

But this was different. This was a vacation.

And he was with his wife… it was almost like a honeymoon.

Just thinking the word “honeymoon” made him giddy.

He kept trying to hide his smile, but it kept coming back.

Forget it, he gave up pretending.

He just couldn’t stop grinning.

It was hilarious.

He felt like an idiot.

Lin Jianyuan thought, if anyone saw him holding his wife and grinning at the scenery, he’d look like a total fool.

But when he looked down, he found another fool in his arms.

Hehehehe.

A perfect match, weren’t they?

The hotel was near the city’s most famous attraction.

It was close to the sights, but tucked away on the hillside, quiet and secluded.

As soon as they got out, hotel staff came to greet them.

Apparently, this was their personal butler.

“Where’s the lobby?” Lin Jianyuan pulled out both their IDs, ready to check in.

“The lobby is that way, about a ten-minute walk from your villa. If you’d like to go, you can take our electric car. There’s a dedicated car and driver waiting at your door whenever you need.”

The butler explained, gentle and attentive.

Lin Jianyuan blinked, a little lost: “Huh?”

It wasn’t until the butler led them to their room that Lin Jianyuan realized:

Wow! At a place like this, you didn’t even need to check in at the lobby.

The butler brought you straight to your villa and checked you in on the spot.

Lin Jianyuan had booked a mountainside villa.

It felt a bit extravagant, just the two of them in such a big place.

But with a household income of four million a year, why not indulge a little?

He’d earned it, working overtime to save the world.

And his wife, an Aberrant saving humanity—he deserved every bit of this luxury.

Each villa at the hotel had its own unique layout and style.

Lin Jianyuan had been overwhelmed by the options online, but luckily, the staff said he could tour the villas and pick his favorite on arrival.

The butler showed them around: French palace style, American country, new Chinese, minimalist Japanese—so many choices.

He wasn’t even sure what style he’d picked in the end.

It wasn’t the most extravagant, but it was the one he liked most at first sight.

(Really, he’d fallen for the outdoor bathtub on the second-floor balcony.)

(And the bedroom in the basement. Lin Jianyuan had never seen a bedroom on the lower level before. Maybe a little chilly in winter, but at the tail end of summer, it was just cool and pleasant.)

(And there was an elevator! Only three floors, but it had an elevator. Now that was a villa.)

“So, what do you think?” Lin Jianyuan tried to sound casual as he turned to his roommate.

Roommate: “You like that bathtub on the second floor, don’t you?”

Lin Jianyuan: “?”

Roommate: “And the huge bedroom downstairs.”

Lin Jianyuan: “???”

His roommate grinned. “Let’s take this one.”

Once the butler left, the whole villa belonged to just the two of them.

The air conditioning was already on, and fruit, drinks, and snacks were set out on the table.

Everything was set up for maximum comfort.

As Lin Jianyuan pushed his suitcase into the elevator, he asked, “How did you know I liked the bathtub and the basement?”

His roommate’s appendix swayed, and he smiled.

“I just know~”

Did he even need to ask?

Xie Yu watched his human with amusement.

His eyes had lit up the moment he saw the bathtub.

And again when he saw the huge basement bedroom and its little sunken courtyard.

And the elevator.

Ah, the elevator.

Humans could ride elevators—inside their own house.

It was so funny.

So cute.

He loved it.

“I really like it.”

The elevator doors closed, sealing them in a small metal world.

His roommate leaned in and kissed Lin Jianyuan’s cheek.

And whispered in his ear:

“I really like you. So much.”

Thump, thump. His heartbeat echoed in that tiny metal space.

Lin Jianyuan: “.”

He was doomed.

Was something wrong with him?

Why was he like this again, oh god!

Run!

……

...

The bathtub was on the open balcony, but the villa was built for privacy.

Their villa was halfway up the hill, surrounded by lush forest, far from any neighbors.

So even though the tub was outdoors, there was no need to worry about being seen.

…Still.

In broad daylight, it still felt a bit too embarrassing.

“And it’s weird to take a bath with you,” Lin Jianyuan said. “It makes me feel like I’m cooking.”

Roommate: “?”

Roommate: “So, do you still want to?”

Lin Jianyuan: “Yeah.”

Roommate: “~”

Since he’d planned the trip himself, their schedule was wide open.

They could change anything at a moment’s notice—just tell their private guide.

With enough money, nothing was impossible.

…Except for his stamina.

And that was running out fast.

Maybe it was staying up too late, or the non-stop travel today.

After touring the villa, once the excitement wore off, Lin Jianyuan crashed. All he wanted was sleep.

He tried to hold out until dinner, but even changing shoes at the door felt exhausting.

So they ordered dinner in.

At a place like this, room service was top-notch.

The server wheeled in a little cart, just like in the movies, with a crisp white tablecloth.

And those classic round silver cloches.

When the food arrived, every dish was piping hot and smelled amazing.

It looked, smelled, and tasted perfect.

But halfway through, Lin Jianyuan put down his fork and sighed.

“What’s wrong?” His roommate had noticed something was off. He leaned in, his cool throat brushing against Lin Jianyuan. “You feel so hot.”

“I think I’m coming down with something.” Lin Jianyuan swallowed, his throat burning. “Baby, stay away, I don’t want you to catch it.”

His roommate said, “I won’t.”

Lin Jianyuan’s head spun. It took him a second to remember, oh. Right.

He couldn’t catch it.

Because his wife was an S-class Aberrant.

Lin Jianyuan remembered that joke about what kind of mosquito could get past an S-class Aberrant’s defenses, and burst out laughing.

But Xie Yu watched him with worry.

He looked wiped out.

His human was running on empty.

Like a lemon squeezed dry. Flat and lifeless.

So there was no bath that night. Lin Jianyuan stumbled into the bathroom for a quick rinse, then collapsed onto the big bed.

“This bed is amazing…”

Lin Jianyuan closed his eyes, stretching out, rubbing his legs against the sheets.

Xie Yu sprawled beside him, a soft mass of digestive system, staring at him.

“Ugh, my throat hurts…” Lin Jianyuan frowned, wanting to cough but afraid to. He pulled his roommate into his arms.

Cool, soft, and squishy—so comfortable to hold.

He must have a fever.

No problem. He could just use his wife for a little physical cooling.

His roommate tilted his head, thinking for a long time, before finally asking, “Do you want some water?”

Lin Jianyuan: “Yeah…”

He tried to let go so his roommate could get up, but Xie Yu stayed put.

Instead, a long piece of intestine snaked out from under the covers.

It stretched out, grabbed a cup, and reached all the way to the water dispenser.

About to press a button, but unsure whether to choose hot or cold.

So he filled one cup with cold water and one with hot.

It was hilarious.

Lin Jianyuan watched through heavy eyelids.

All he could think was how cute, how funny.

Lin Jianyuan drank the water, took some cold medicine from his suitcase.

All he could do now was wait.

A cold doesn’t go away just because you take medicine.

But it does make you sleepy.

“Baby, I’m going to sleep for a bit…” Lin Jianyuan murmured, his burning cheek pressed to Xie Yu’s throat. “Stay with me, okay?”

“Mhm,” his roommate said. “Go to sleep.”

But no matter how long he lay there, Lin Jianyuan couldn’t fall asleep.

His throat hurt.

It hurt so much.

Swallowing was agony, but not swallowing left his mouth painfully dry.

He kept licking his lips, caught in a miserable cycle of wanting to swallow but dreading the pain.

He felt awful.

He tossed and turned, who knows how long.

Suddenly, his roommate kissed him.

Lin Jianyuan was surprised, but didn’t resist.

He thought it was just a peck, but it deepened into a slow, wet, lingering kiss.

“Mmm…” Lin Jianyuan’s chest burned, his breath turning feverish.

He closed his eyes, holding his roommate close.

His head spun…

Dizzier and dizzier…

In the haze, he felt something cool and wet slip down his throat.

He instinctively tried to cough.

But his roommate clamped a hand over his mouth.

“Swallow.”

His roommate said, “Baby, be good. Swallow.”

Lin Jianyuan opened his eyes, dazed.

He swallowed, the cool liquid sliding down smoothly.
